ISO/IEC 42001: what an AI management system is

Understand the purpose of an AIMS and how it complements regulation.

Learn

ISO/IEC 42001 specifies requirements for establishing, implementing, maintaining and continually improving an Artificial Intelligence Management System (AIMS).

An AIMS is an organisational management framework: policies, objectives, responsibilities, processes, risk management, monitoring and improvement around responsible AI development or use.

ISO/IEC 42001 does not replace laws such as the EU AI Act. It gives an organisation a repeatable governance system that can support regulatory readiness and evidence discipline.

Remember
  • •AIMS = the management system around AI.
  • •It is organisational, not just technical.
  • •Certification does not equal automatic legal compliance.
Client practice

Explain to a COO why an AIMS is useful even when the company already has individual AI risk assessments.
